In latest news from Uttarakhand, with the successful accomplishment of the Silkyara evacuation mission, the 41 rescued workers who had remained trapped in the collapsed tunnel for 17 days were airlifted to AIIMS Rishikesh by the Indian Air Force’s Chinook choppers. The doctors working for the premier health facility of the State said that they would undergo medical examinations and then they would be free to return homes. Earlier, the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and the Union minister of state for road transport and highways V K Singh had met the workers and their relatives at the community health centre at Chinayalisour and the CM handed over cheques of Rs 1 lakh to each of the 41 workers. Besides, the company for which these men are working has granted fortnight’s paid leave to them to enable them go back homes in their respective states. Notably, medical examinations had been conducted on the 41 workers at the Chinayalisour health centre soon after they had been brought out of the confines of the collapsed tunnel and they were found fit. However, with the State government resolved to leave nothing to chance, arrangements were made to airlift them to AIIMS Rishikesh for thorough physical checkups.
