48 hour ultimatum by Nihangs, a failure of State govt: Pratima Singh

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun

The spokesperson of Uttarakhand Congress Pratima Singh has said that the 48 hour ultimatum given by Nihangs is a complete failure of State government’s policies. She said that the State government has failed to maintain the security and law and order situation in Uttarakhand.

She said that the manner in which minor disputes in Karnprayag (Chamoli) and Nagarasu (Rudraprayag) escalated into major conflicts reflects the failure of the State’s intelligence agencies and administrative machinery. Pratima Singh said that the forced occupation of a Gurudwara in Nagarasu of Rudraprayag district for more than three days was the first such incident in the history of Uttarakhand.

“We want to ask the government why, instead of taking strict legal action against these elements who openly vandalized, threatened local residents and took the law into their own hands, they were given a VIP farewell. The administration sent the rioters back safely to Punjab without any punitive action. This clearly demonstrates that the Dhami government was acting under political pressure,’’ she said.

The Congress spokesperson alleged that due to the upcoming assembly elections in Punjab and political dynamics, the Uttarakhand government put the safety of the State’s citizens and the rule of law at stake. She said that the State government bowed to the demands of the culprits and the investigation of the Karnprayag incident was hastily transferred to Haridwar.

Pratima Singh said that all the miscreants involved in Nagarasu and Karnprayag incidents should be identified and cases should be registered against them.
