In latest Uttarakhand news, the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and the Union communications and railways minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated the country’s 2,00,000th 5G site at the holy shrine of Gangotri. The inauguration ceremony marking the commissioning of the latest 5G unit in Gangotri was held at the chief minister’s residence.    At the same time, work on commissioning fibre connectivity (optical fibre) in Char Dhams- Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri-was started.  The four revered shrines can be now directly covered by 5-G network and this will provide the pilgrims with better call and video connectivity.

Expressing gratitude to the Union communications and railways minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the CM said that his initiatives have culminated in revolutionary changes in the State’s digital realm. “Now, the introduction of the 5 G service in Gangotri Dham is a special gift for the pilgrims,” he said, adding that this would be beneficial not just for the Char Dham pilgrims but would prove instrumental in the expansion of communications in the villages situated in the vicinity of the four shrines.
He further said that “Digital India” is now an important part of the comprehensive developmental vision of the country.

Speaking on the occasion, the Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that since the PM had launched the 5 G journey in October 2022, the country has been undergoing telecom revolution. He said that they are feeling elated over the fact that the Char Dhams are being connected with 5G and optical fibre. He further said that India is now at par with the world in 5G. “But India will lead the world in the realm of 6G,” he averred.

During this programme, State cabinet ministers Ganesh Joshi and Rekha Arya, Dehradun Mayor Sunil Uniyal Gama, DG Telecom S K Jain and secretary Shailesh Bagauli were present.
