Over 50 devotees from Rajasthan sustained injuries after a private bus carrying them collided with a tree on the Haridwar-Laksar highway on Friday. The pilgrims were returning to Rajasthan after taking a holy dip in the Ganga river in Haridwar on the occasion of Kartik Purnima.
The officials said that the accident happened near the Shree Cement factory when the bus driver reportedly lost control while attempting to overtake a tractor-trolley. The impact left many injured, prompting cries for help at the scene. The police rushed to the spot after getting information and began rescue operations.
The injured were transported to government hospitals in Laksar and Sultanpur with the assistance of ambulances. The officials said that most of the passengers sustained minor injuries and eight passengers received treatment at community health centre in Laksar while two critically injured individuals, including the driver, were referred to a higher medical centre for advanced care. The investigation is ongoing, they added.
