50+ roads blocked in various parts in the state

Friday, 20 August 2021 | PNS | Dehradun/Joshimath

Despite there being a slight break in the rains, more than 50 roads in the state are blocked due to landslides and other factors. The highway at Malari in Chamoli district has remained blocked for the sixth day in Tamak with efforts underway to provide an alternate route.

The closure of this road has prevented problems of the residents of border areas from being resolved. This highway leads to the Indo-China border area in the district and has been closed for nearly a week due to consistent landslides. Despite orders from the top level to arrange for alternate routes in such cases, the authorities here have evidently not done the needful. As a result, residents in dozens of villages apart from the ITBP and army are facing the consequences of stalled transportation. The sub divisional magistrate Kumkum Joshi said that inclement weather is posing problems.

Meanwhile, seven other roads were reported blocked in Chamoli district. Two rural motor roads are blocked in Uttarkashi, one in Dehradun, 21 rural motor roads and two main roads in Pauri and four rural motor roads in Tehri district. In Bageshwar, five rural motor roads are blocked while one is blocked in Nainital, three in Champawat and one state road, three border roads and four rural motor roads in Pithoragarh district.
