PNS | HALDWANI

Some thieves have reportedly stolen 50 LED streetlights from electric poles in Haldwani, Nainital district.  The Municipal Corporation of Haldwani (MCH) and the company responsible for streetlight operations EESL have filed a complaint against the unknown culprits. According to the officials, EESL registered a complaint in the Mukhani Police Station stating that the missing LED streetlights were installed as part of a contract for street lighting in the municipal area.

A survey that was conducted over three days from December 19 to 21 revealed that 50 streetlights were reportedly missing from electric poles between wards 37 and 54. The officials said that the survey was reportedly conducted after the corporation received many complaints from local residents regarding streetlights not functioning in several wards, which prompted the municipal workers to inspect and repair the streetlights. During this inspection, the missing lights were discovered. The officials said that the corporation is making necessary arrangements to ensure locals do not have to go through dark roads at night during winter.

The  police have started an investigation based on the complaint and gathering necessary evidence in the matter against culprits, they added.
