500-bed Covid care centre inaugurated in Haldwani

Chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat virtually inaugurated a 500-bed temporary Covid care centre prepared by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in Haldwani. Built on 10,000 square feet area, this Covid care centre equipped with modern facilities has 375 oxygen supported beds, 125 ICU and ventilators. In addition to a separate ward for children, arrangements have also been made for their parents. Further, a separate ward has also been made for Black Fungus patients. The DRDO constructed this facility in a period of three weeks. The clinical management of this facility will be handled by the Sushila Tiwari government hospital.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that this Covid care centre had been prepared in a short duration due to the joint efforts of the Centre and State. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence minister Rajnath Singh for this development. Rawat said that establishment of this facility in Haldwani will considerably benefit residents of the Kumaon region in accessing necessary treatment. He further stated that the state government is undertaking all possible efforts for improvement in the health services. There is adequate availability of ICU, oxygen, ventilators and other necessary items required for proper treatment. All necessary arrangements are being made considering the possibility of the third wave of Covid-19, he said.

Cabinet minister Banshidhar Bhagat said that this was an important development in Haldwani in the field of medical services. This is a big boost for health service in the Kumaon region, he said. The minister further said that this Covid care centre will prove to be very helpful considering the possibility of the third wave of Covid-19.

Expressing his views on the occasion, MP Ajay Bhatt said that the state government under chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat is doing commendable work amidst the pandemic. The government has also ensured adequate supply of oxygen, oxygen concentrators and other items in mountainous and distant areas of the state. The MP also expressed gratitude to officials of the DRDO for completing the construction of this facility in a short time period.

Speaking on the occasion, the leader of opposition and Haldwani MLA, Indira Hridayesh said that establishment of this facility in Haldwani will make the treatment of patients considerably convenient. Thanking the chief minister for this, she said that a large number of patients from various parts of Kumaon region and neighbouring Uttar Pradesh come to Haldwani for treatment. She further said that medical service is one sphere where there is always scope for further improvement. The leader of opposition also stressed on the need for all to unit and make efforts to fight against Covid-19.

The inauguration of the facility was also attended virtually by the Haldwani mayor Jogendra Pal Singh Rautela, chief advisor to the CM, Shatrughna Singh, chief secretary Om Prakash, additional chief secretary Radha Raturi, Health secretary Amit Singh Negi, Kumaon commissioner Arvind Singh Hyanki, director general of health, Dr Tripti Bahuguna, Sushila Tiwari medical college principal Dr CP Bhainsda and Nainital district magistrate Dhiraaj Garbyal among others.
