Dehradun district administration has stepped up to conserve and revive natural water sources, springs and streams in the district following the district magistrate Ashish Chauhan’s direction to officials to prepare time- bound plans and ensure that the projects benefit local residents.
The DM asked departments concerned to work together and complete water conservation projects within deadlines. The Minor Irrigation department officials informed the meeting that work on 51 recharge shafts has been completed. The administration will now prepare a joint report with the Central Ground Water Board to assess their impact on groundwater levels and water conservation.
The district administration has also ordered water conservation work in the Gadool, a tributary of the Song river, under the ‘One District, One River’ initiative. A detailed project report will also be prepared for the Baandal river to plan its overall development and revival.
The DM also directed officials to develop a series of check dams, along with other rainwater harvesting structures. Under SARA, Rs 21.05 crore has been approved for water-source conservation, of which Rs 3.75 crore has been released and Rs 3.45 crore spent so far.
