568 missing people recovered under Operation Smile

The police have recovered 568 missing people in 15 days under Operation Smile in the State. This two-month campaign was started on September 1 as per the directions of director general of police Ashok Kumar for the search and rehabilitation of missing children, women and men. In the said campaign, a total of 26 teams were formed- four teams each in the Dehradun, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, and Nainital districts and one team each in the remaining districts and railways to search for the missing persons. Each team consists of one sub inspector and four constables, said the officials. According to the police, the campaign is being conducted mostly in such places of the districts where chances of finding missing people are high like shelter homes, dhabas, factories, bus stands, railway stations and religious places, among others. The police also make efforts and send teams if they suspect the missing person may be found in other States. Besides this, some missing persons are also being matched with the unclaimed bodies recovered in the State and the bordering States. The police have recovered 568 missing persons from September 1 to September 15 this year under Operation Smile. This includes 283 women, 213 men, 27 girls, and 38 unregistered missing persons. The officials said that from 2015 to 2021, the police have recovered over 3,823 missing people under this campaign. They said that a review is also held every month at the police headquarters level to search for missing persons and guidelines are issued from time to time for their search and rehabilitation as per the requirement.
