Ministry of Railways has launched ‘One Station One Product’ (OSOP) scheme to promote ‘Vocal for Local’ vision of the Union Government. It is meant to provide a market for local/indigenous products and create additional income opportunities for the marginalised sections of the society. Under this scheme, six railway stations of Uttarakhand have been selected where stalls will be opened to sell local/indigenous products like jute bags, handicrafts and handlooms.
As per the notice issued by the railways department, six stations-Dehradun, Haldwani, Haridwar, Kashipur, Kathgodam and Roorkee-will have stalls to be run by the people from economically unprivileged sections of the society from which local/indigenous products will be displayed for sale.
This pilot project was launched on March 25, 2022 and by May 1, 2023, 785 OSOPs have been opened across 21 states and three Union Territories with 728 railway stations being involved. To provide uniformity to all the OSOP stalls, design has been made through National Institute of Design. From March 2022 to May 2023, the number of direct beneficiaries has reached 25,109.
Stress in this scheme is laid on making the railway stations promotional hubs for local, specialized products to boost local industries.
