68 families in Joshimath shifted to safer accommodations

Authorities distribute Rs 5K each to affected families for essential household items

A total of 68 families have been shifted from unsafe homes to temporary accommodations arranged by the district administration in Joshimath. On Sunday, the authorities also distributed cheques for Rs 5,000 each to 46 affected families for the purchase of necessary household items. According to the officials, as per the requirements of the affected families, the district administration has so far distributed 51 foodgrain kits, 500 liters of milk, and 19 blankets.

As per the information from the district administration, a total of 603 homes in Joshimath city have developed cracks. Ravigram area has the maximum number of homes with cracks at 161 followed by the Gandhinagar locality with 134 such homes. Similarly, there are 80 homes with cracks in Manoharbagh, 56 in Sinhdwar, 51 in Parsari, 28 in Palika-Marwari, 24 in Lower Bazaar, 31 in Upper Bazaar, and 38 in Sunil. So far the authorities have made arrangements for temporary accommodation for the affected families in 21 government and private buildings with a total capacity of 1,271. Four wards of the city have been declared unsafe due to major land subsidence and sector officers have been appointed for each area. Further, the officials are also making rounds during the night as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of residents.
