7 Nepali labourers killed as van plunges into gorge

In latest news from Uttarakhand, at least seven people were killed and two were injured when the pickup van-heading for Mallagaon from Betalghat- they were travelling in plunged into a 200-metre-deep gorge in Betalghat area in Nainital district. All the seven deceased were of Nepali origin and they were returning home after completing their day’s work in the Jal Jeevan Mission when the gruesome mishap happened.
On being informed, police from Betalghat and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel rushed to the spot and launched rescue operation with the help of locals. Police informed that the deceased were yet to be identified and added that one of them was a local Rajendra Kumar who was behind the wheels of the ill-fated vehicle.
