799 Anganwadi centres to get facelift in U’khand

The Union government has provided a sum of Rs 623 lakh to Uttarakhand government for a modernisation of 799 Anganwadi centres in the State. This budget would be spent on purchasing child friendly furniture and outdoor play materials for these centres. The budget has been provided under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and the State project office of Uttarakhand has allotted it to the districts.
The Education and Health minister Dhan Singh Rawat said that Uttarakhand has become the first State in the country to implement the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020. He said that the State government had sent a work plan for modernisation and development of physical infrastructure in 799 Anganwadi centres being operated in the government schools of the State after which a sum of Rs 623.22 lakh has been provided under SSA. Under the scheme a sum of Rs 39,000 would be provided to every Anganwadi centre for modernisation. He said the proposal of modernisation of remaining Anganwadi centres in the State would also be sent to the union government in the coming financial year. It would pave the way for modernisation of more than 4,500 Anganwadi centres in the State.
In the first phase 198 centres in Almora, 20 in Bageshwar, 58 in Chamoli, 24 in Champawat, 82 in Dehradun, nine in Haridwar, 69 in Nainital, 100 in Pauri, 47 in Pithoragarh, 10 in Rudraprayag, 39 in Tehri, 93 in Udham Singh Nagar and 50 in Uttarkashi would be modernised. The minister said that the officers deployed in the SSA and the districts have been asked to complete the work on modernisation of Anganwadi centres in time so that better education and facilities are imparted to the children in these centres. He expressed hope that the project would help in improving the Anganwadi centres and ensure that the children get education as per the NEP-2020.
