The 121st eight-day Shri Maa Nanda Devi Mahotsav commenced in Nainital city on Wednesday under the auspices of the city-based religious institution Sri Ram Sevak Sabha. A number of Chholiya artists from the rural areas from across the Kumaon region presented the traditional folk dance during the inaugural festival.
The Kumaon commissioner Deepak Rawat who was present as the chief guest on the occasion said that culture signifies a region’s distinct identity and tradition takes people forward. While speaking at the inaugural function, the DIG Nainital Yogender Singh Rawat said that the Mother Nanda is the fount of the people’s energy.
Speaking in the same vein, the SSP Nainital Prahlad Narayan Meena said that they derive courage to take on the challenges in life from Mount Kailash. The local MLA Sarita Arya said that the organisers of the festival, assisted by the district administration and police, have taken all possible steps to ensure that this year’s festival proves as successful as the festivals of the previous years.
