84 more schools included in PM SHRI scheme in U’khand

A total of 84 schools have been selected for the second phase of Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) scheme in Uttarakhand. The project approval board (PAB) of the union education ministry has approved a sum of Rs 61.19 crore for infrastructure development and innovations in these schools. A total of 225 schools in the State have so far been selected for the PM SHRI scheme. The education minister Dhan Singh Rawat said that work at different levels is underway for improving the quality of education in the State. 

Under the PM SHRI scheme, 10 schools each have been selected in Udham Singh Nagar, Almora and Pithoragarh districts while eight schools each have been selected in Nainital and Chamoli districts. Similarly seven schools in Pauri, six each in Dehradun, Haridwar and Uttarkashi, four each in Champawat and Tehri, three in Bageshwar and two in Rudraprayag district have been selected in the second phase of the PM SHRI schools in Uttarakhand.  

Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and education minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Rawat said that a sum of Rs 61.19 crore has been sanctioned by the PAB. He added that in the first phase the PAB had selected 141 schools in the State under the scheme. 

Rawat said that under the PM SHRI scheme the selected schools are equipped with ICT and digital facilities, digital TV, digital board, Audio Visual system, musical instruments and band set under the provisions of the National Education Policy-2020.  Apart from these facilities, 21 additional classrooms, 11 computer rooms, 19 physics laboratories and nine chemistry and biology laboratories each will be constructed in these schools. The minister said that arrangements of dustbins and LED lights will be made under the green school project. 

He informed that special focus on innovative activities will be done in these schools. The bag- free day, annual function, summer camp, exposure visits, expert talks, sanitation activities and others will be organised in these schools. The minister said that the officers of the department have been asked to make necessary preparations for the inclusion of a maximum number of schools in the third phase of the PM SHRI scheme in the State.
