PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE /Dehradun

Taking action against drunk driving, speeding and other violations of traffic rules on Sunday, the police in Dehradun seized 84 vehicles during an enforcement drive. The vehicles included 66 two-wheelers and 18 four-wheelers.

During an elaborate checking drive carried out across the district, police took action against drivers involved in drunk driving, rash driving and other traffic violations. The police also focused on vehicles-specifically two-wheelers- using modified silencers that make loud firecracker-like noise, which violate the law and disturb people.

According to the police, a total of 84 vehicles were seized during the drive. These included 66 two-wheelers and 18 four-wheelers. Apart from this, 57 vehicle drivers were issued court challans for serious violations of traffic rules.

The police also fined 77 vehicle owners under the Motor Vehicles Act and collected a total fine of Rs 38,500. The checking drive was carried out at different locations in the district to ensure that people follow traffic rules and drive safely.

Officials said that this campaign will continue in the coming days. The police have also appealed to the public to follow traffic rules and avoid drunk driving to prevent road accidents.
