The district administration has rescued women and children found begging on the stretch of road from ISBT to the Rispana bridge. The action was taken on the directions of the Dehradun district magistrate R Rajesh Kumar.
It is pertinent to mention here that begging by children has been rising in the city consistently. In most of the cases women along with children can be seen begging at various intersections across the provisional State capital. Considering this, the relevant authority had directed that the women and children found begging on the roads should be rescued and provided facilities according to the standards set by the government.
As part of the campaign, various organisations and departments rescued women and children found begging on the road from ISBT to Rispana bridge. A total of nine children and four women were rescued in the drive after they were found begging on the road. The women and children who were rescued were administered a medical check-up and then presented before the child welfare committee after which they were all handed over to their families.
