95 students test positive in Govt Nursing College

The intensity of the second wave of Covid-19 is rising in the mountainous regions too with at least 95 new positive cases coming to light in the government nursing college at Sursingdhar in New Tehri the district headquarters of Tehri in Garhwal on Saturday.

According to the district administration 95 students of the Government Nursing College at Sursingdhar, New Tehri have tested positive while the reports of others is still awaited. The district administration has sealed the college and converted it into an isolation centre. The college principal Savita Ahmed Naz said that 210 students are currently studying in the college out of whom 95 students have reported positive while 60 have received negative reports. The report of 55 students is yet to come. Additional district magistrate Shivcharan Dwivedi said that the college has been turned into a containment zone while all the positive cases have been kept in isolation. The Tehri district magistrate Eva Ashish Srivastava has constituted a committee to monitor the health of the students staying on the college campus. The DM said that the students whose families wanted to take their wards home on their own responsibility will be allowed to do so but with all precautionary measures. She said that negligence will not be tolerated in this matter, adding that she has directed the health department officials to work in coordinated manner. The administration on being questioned on why the students were not sent home  earlier said that one student tested positive few days before the announcement of the closure of college, so it was decided to get all students tested after which around 95 have been reported positive. 

Earlier one student was found Covid positive in the college before the government holiday. All the students were stopped and sampled as a precautionary measure.
