Helicopter services for Kedarnath have resumed. Stating this on Friday, Tourism secretary and Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB) chief executive officer Sachin Kurve said that the safety of the pilgrims is of paramount importance for the government and hence the services were suspended for some time due to inclement weather in the region.
Expressing his happiness at the success of the Char Dham Yatra to all the four Dhams in this season, he commended the efforts of all government officials, tour operators, transport operators, accommodation unit owners and others in making the pilgrimage comfortable for the visitors. He informed, “The number of visitors this season has already touched 33 lakh and it is expected that this number will set a new record by the closure of the Yatra season. This year, the government had initiated a process of online registration of all pilgrims on the Char Dham Yatra circuit, which has enabled the authorities to keep track of the movement of pilgrims in the region.
The information generated through this process will enable the government to take further steps to make the Yatra comfortable for the pilgrims. Kurve further said, “The government is taking various steps to make the Yatra for the pilgrims better and it is expected that in the coming years more pilgrims from across the country will undertake the Yatra to these holy shrines.”
According to the officials, for the first time this year, helicopter service was made available to the devotees even during monsoon. To visit Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri shrines pilgrims should register online on the website of the tourism department http://registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in.
