The Dehradun district administration has issued show-cause notices to over a dozen schools on Friday for allegedly not complying with the directions issued by the administration to prevent the spread of dengue in schools. The district magistrate Sonika held a meeting on Friday with officials of various departments including Health and Education considering the increasing cases of dengue in various parts of the district. She directed the officials to impose penalties on restaurants, cinema halls, malls and residential areas if they found favourable breeding conditions for mosquitoes in the premises.
She asked the Education department to ensure the school administrations are following the directions like students must attend schools in full length pants and full sleeves shirts to cover the maximum parts of the body as a measure to protect them from contracting dengue. She has also asked officials to take action against the schools if they are not following all standard protocols to keep the premises dengue free. The administration has also received complaints about some prominent schools failing to comply with these directions considering which the chief education officer issued show-cause notices to over a dozen schools including St Joseph Academy, Carman School, Doon Girls School, Brooklyn School and The Heritage School among others. The officials stated that if schools fail to provide satisfactory explanation to the administration within a day, necessary action will be taken as per the conditions of NOC issued by the government and the provisions of the Free and Compulsory Child Education Officer Act 2009.
