The decision of the Assembly speaker Ritu Khanduri to cancel 228 ad hoc appointments on Friday shocked the Vidhan Sabha employees. Immediately after addressing the press conference in which she had announced her decision, Khanduri went to her chamber.
As the news of her decision spread, a large number of affected employees gathered outside her office. These employees, most of whom were women, confronted the speaker when she came out of her office and tried to gherao her. They asked the speaker the reason for their removal and what they will now do for livelihood.
The security personnel on duty safely took the speaker away from the agitated employees. Many female employees were seen weeping. “We should have been given a chance to present our case. In one sudden decision we have been asked to leave. We have families, we have taken loans. What will we do now?” asked one of the employees.
