WECD Dept issues Rs 3 crore to 5K beneficiaries under MVY

The Women Empowerment and Child Development (WECD) minister Rekha Arya transferred Rs three crore to the bank accounts of 5,000 newly marked beneficiaries of Mukhyamantri Vatsalya Yojana (MVY) on Friday for August and September. Arya said that the government is committed to taking care of such children who lost their parents or guardians to Covid or any other disease between March 1, 2020 to March 30, 2022. She said that protecting such children’s assets and legal rights are also the department’s responsibilities under this scheme besides providing them monthly monetary assistance of Rs 3,000 till they turn 21 years old. She said that the WECD department in coordination with various departments has made important provisions for the beneficiaries in a coordinated manner like the facility of Atal Ayushman card by the health department for providing free medical treatment along with the reservation and free education provided by the technical education department for studies in technical educational institutions of the State. Similarly, the department concerned has also made a provision of five per cent Horizontal Reservation Rules, 2021 for orphan children in government services.

The Higher Education department is also obligated to provide admission to the eligible beneficiaries in the nearby government or non-government colleges based on preference. Selected students will also be provided with one tablet during the college period and free books from the library. Other facilities like fee exemption, fare exemption in government transportation from home to college, uniform for college as per the requirement and free arrangement for stay and food till the post graduation of the beneficiaries also must to provide under MVY, said the WECD minister. She said that many districts are still getting applications from potential beneficiaries across the State and after the verification process is completed at the district level by officials concerned, more beneficiaries will be added under this scheme.
