In a clear attempt to douse the fire ignited in the Uttarakhand Congress by the statements and social media posts of senior party leaders, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has said that his recent statement was not meant to hurt any leader. He however added that instead of targeting each other, the Congress leaders should train their guns on the BJP and the Uttarakhand government.
Interacting with the media persons at the State headquarters of the Congress party here on Tuesday, the PCC president said that at a time when the Congress and its workers are taking on the State government on the issues of justice for Ankita Bhandari, recruitment scams in the Uttarakhand Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UKSSSC), Cooperative department and the backdoor appointments in Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha, the senior leaders of the Congress party should encourage the party workers. He added that the senior leaders of the party should pat the backs of the workers for the fight they are waging against the rising prices and unemployment. On a sombre note, Mahara said that it is unfortunate that he (Mahara) is not able to explain this to the senior leaders. Reacting to the statement of the former chief minister Harish Rawat in which he praised the CM Pushkar Singh Dhami and posted his picture holding an umbrella while talking with a roadside vendor in Rudraprayag recently Mahara said that the former CM has prompted the party leaders to work hard which is a good thing.
The statement of the Mahara assumes significance in the wake of the war of words between him and former PCC president Pritam Singh. The veteran leader of Congress party and Chakrata MLA had questioned the absence of the in-charge of Uttarakhand Congress Devendra Yadav from the State during the time of Panchayat elections in Haridwar. Reacting to the statement of Singh, Mahara had said that the Yadav has visited Uttarakhand three times after the defeat of Congress party in Assembly elections and those raising questions on his absence should get their vision cleared.
