Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ has sent samples of construction material currently being used in Smart City work at Parade Ground for testing after being suspicious of its quality on Thursday. The mayor inspected the construction site at Parade Ground on Thursday and inquired the workers regarding construction work and the material being used by them but they failed to respond properly.
Finding their behaviour suspicious, ‘Gama’ collected some samples of the construction material and sent it for the testing. He also expressed his disappointment on the consistent delay of smart city projects by the agencies concerned. He said that the administration has already blacklisted a contractor for unnecessary delay in the construction works of smart city projects. The same process will be followed to blacklist the contractor responsible for the ongoing construction works at Parade Ground in the meeting of Dehradun Smart City Limited (DSCL) on November 3, said the mayor. He also reprimanded the senior officials of DSCL and asked them to ensure that only high quality construction materials are being used for smart city projects. The officials will also be held responsible and bound to face consequences if the contractors fail to work efficiently, he added.
The mayor also inspected the under construction Doon library at Parade Ground and said that the smart library is almost ready and will be inaugurated next month. The district magistrate also conducted an inspection on Thursday and directed the officials to mend the nearby damaged roads and manage the construction material spread at the site systematically besides completing the main construction works.
