Five companies show interest in operating waste management plant in Sheeshambada

MCD expected to select REEL’s replacement this week
Five companies have shown interest in the operation of the solid waste management and recycling plant in Sheeshambada through the tender floated by the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) last month. The corporation is expected to announce the name of the selected company this week.
Ramky Enviro Engineers Limited (REEL) that manages the operation of the waste management plant in Sheeshambada besides managing door to door garbage collection service in 69 out of 100 wards through its sister company Chennai MSW had notified MCD in September that it will be relieved of all responsibilities by October 31. However its work got extended recently by 15 days as MCD failed to select any agency to operate the plant so far.
The corporation was initially assured of selecting a new agency by October after it floated its first tender in September but none of the three companies which participated were selected by MCD for the plant’s operation. The chief municipal health officer Dr Avinash Khanna informed that five companies have participated in the tender and the officials are currently carrying out the verification process of the documents provided by the candidates during the technical bid of the tender. He said that the MCD will try to carry out the required process as soon as possible and would announce the name of the new company by the end of this week or at the beginning of the next one.
The corporation is also expected to select an agency for door to door garbage collection service on November 9 through the tender it floated recently. Waste management has become an extremely challenging task in the city in the past few months and with the appointment of new agencies, MCD is expecting to improve the situation. The corporation is also expected to make certain big changes in its waste management criteria after selecting new agencies in order to prevent and control waste management crises in future, as per the officials.
