Former chief minister and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat has said that a review petition should be filed in the Supreme Court to get justice to the victim in the Chhawla gangrape and murder case.
In his post on social media, Rawat said that since the recent judgement in the case was delivered by a three judge bench of the Supreme Court, four to five advocates who are legal luminaries should be engaged for filing the review petition in the SC. Rawat who has launched a campaign ‘Justice for Anamika’ said that the State government of Uttarakhand should take an initiative to get justice to its daughter as the task ahead needs extensive resource mobilisation. He requested the CM Pushkar Singh Dhami to talk with some noted lawyers and engage them in the case.
The former chief minister led a congregation of party workers in Dehradun on Thursday in a candle march in support of the demand for justice to Anamika (name changed), the victim of the Chhawla gangrape and murder case. It is pertinent to mention here that after a long legal battle, a three judge bench of SC has recently acquitted the three convicts in the gruesome murder case reversing the death penalty awarded by a trial court and upheld by the Delhi High Court. Their acquittal has become an emotional issue in Uttarakhand.
On Friday the CM had a telephonic conversation with the victim’s father and assured every possible help to the family.
