The Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ has directed the officials concerned to take action against the vendors who encroach on roads in many wards causing a daily nuisance to the public. The mayor has been participating in a three-hour cleanliness campaign every Friday,
Saturday and Sunday since last month under the Swachchh Ward Sundar Doon initiative and interacts with the locals during this activity. Under this campaign, the mayor along with locals and sanitation workers conducts cleanliness work in three wards every week. On this weekend, he visited DL Road and Rispana wards and carried out sanitation works like sweeping roads and removing silt from drains with sanitation workers and locals.
The locals also complained to him about the cleanliness issue in their areas. Locals said that many vendors encroach on the roads to put their products on display to sell them. Such encroachments take up about half of the road causing problems in commutation on a daily basis. Many citizens also complained about the dumping of cow dung in public places by dairy owners. According to them, the dairy owners continue to dump cow dung in the Rispana river or nearby which causes the whole area to stink. They said that many even dump it in drains by mixing it with water which often leads to choked drains.
Considering these complaints, the mayor has directed the officials concerned of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) to take action in the matter. He also appealed to the locals to participate in the cleanliness campaign and maintain cleanliness in their surroundings to make Dehradun the cleanest city.
