Police arrest husband-wife main accused in Vipin Rawat murder case

The Dehradun police arrested a man and his wife for attacking a man who died during treatment on Saturday. Earlier, the senior superintendent of police (SSP) Daleep Singh Kunwar had also suspended sub-inspector (SI), Praveen Saini for negligence in conducting the investigation in the case.
The SSP informed the media here on Sunday that Vipin Rawat was attacked by a man armed with a baseball bat on November 25 after a minor argument outside an eatery on Gandhi Road in the city. The victim along with his friend Nikhil Rana and two women had dinner at a hotel on November 25. When they were coming out, Rawat had an argument with two men after one of them allegedly misbehaved with his friend.
The SSP said that the men allegedly started beating up the victim and one of them, identified as Vinit Arora, hit him on the head with a baseball bat which caused bleeding after which the attackers fled from the scene. He said that the victim had undergone treatment at a hospital for which he was later referred to Mahant Indiresh hospital where he died on Saturday. The victim’s brother Pankaj Rawat filed a complaint against the accused and the police filed a case against two women and a man on November 25. He said that SI Praveen Saini imposed additional charges of section 307 of IPC. The police conducted raids and made consistent efforts to arrest them but the accused were granted interim bail by the court, said the SSP. After the accused died on Saturday, the charges were increased to section 302 of IPC. The accused Vineet Arora was arrested from Prince Chowk on Saturday and his wife Partheviya Arora on Sunday from Mohini Road, said Kunwar.
The police have also recovered the baseball bat used by the accused to hit the victim and the car used by the two accused on that night. The SSP also suspended SI Praveen Saini for his negligence in investigating the case.
