Register charges under major relevant sections against accused: DGP

Tuesday, 06 December 2022 | PNS | DEHRADUN

The Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Kumar issued an order to the officials on Monday to register charges against the accused under major sections after getting full information about the nature of the crime committed by him/her instead of registering charges under milder sections with incomplete information. He said that offenders should not gain from the imposition of mild sections despite committing serious crimes. He said that the accused must also be interrogated properly even for crimes punishable by up to seven years.

Considering the increasing involvement of drug addicts in crimes across the Dehradun district, Kumar also directed the senior superintendent of police (SSP) Daleep Singh Kunwar to take effective measures against substance abuse. The DGP also issued an order that no police officer or employee below the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in the Dehradun district would be allowed to give any kind of statement to the media regarding any crime. The officials concerned can give statements only after the approval of the respective SSP, as per the DGP’s order.

Talking about the reason for the order, the chief spokesman of Uttarakhand police V Murugesan said that sometimes wrong information is released due to miscommunication among police personnel during an ongoing investigation or case. To prevent such situations, the DGP ordered that only the officials concerned will be allowed to talk about a crime or case who usually have complete information, said Murugesan.
