Trying to develop U’khand as model State in higher education, says CM

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that the State government is trying to develop Uttarakhand as a model State in the education sector. He was addressing the State level National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) certification and training workshop at DIT university here on Wednesday. He said that the State government is working on its objective of making Uttarakhand a leading State of the country till the year 2025. The CM averred that the State government has adopted a no pendency policy and has implemented the National Education Policy- 2020 in the State. He said undeterred by the limited resources at its disposal, Uttarakhand has become the first State in the country to implement the provisions of the NEP- 2020 in the holistic manner.

He expressed hope that the quality and recommendation report of NAAC accreditation would help in providing a broad outline of the government’s work in the higher education sector. He said that the regional office of the NAAC would be a major gift to the State and its  nearby States. The CM said that assessment and accreditation of the institutes is mandatory as per the provisions of the NEP-2020 and the experts of the NAAC would help in improving the quality of the institutions in the State.

The CM said that many innovations by mixing the old and modern education systems are  being done in the country. He said that it is heartening that the new generation would now get acquainted with the actual history of the country and the rich culture of the country by the NEP-2020. He said that the new education policy would help the youngsters to become employment providers and not job seekers.

 Speaking on the occasion, the education minister Dhan Singh Rawat said that the workshop is being organised as a part of the Chintan Shivir in the higher education sector. He said that there are 35 universities, 119 government degree colleges and  more than 300 private colleges in the State. The minister said that students from almost all States of the country and 19 countries come to Uttarakhand for higher education. The minister said that special nodal officers would be appointed in every degree college to coordinate with the NAAC. He said that the department has taken a target to develop 25 colleges as model colleges by the year 2025 in the State. Rawat added that efforts are being made to increase coordination among the institutes of higher education and update the level of teaching in the State.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) between department of higher education and the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India, Ahmedabad for modernisation, skill and entrepreneurship development was also inked in the presence of CM on the occasion.  The director of NAAC Bangalore SC Sharma, chancellor of DIT university N Ravishankar, secretary Shailesh Bagauli, additional secretary Prashant Arya, higher education  director Jagdish Prasad and others were present on the occasion.
