State Govt to provide 30% quota for women in PRD recruitment

The Sports, Youth Welfare and PRD minister Rekha Arya said that the government will provide a 30 per cent quota for women’s recruitment in Prantiya Rakshak Dal (PRD) and will also introduce a provision to recruit families of PRD jawans who get martyred in the dependent quota in a year. She stated this in an event organised at PRD headquarters in Dehradun on Sunday to mark the foundation day of PRD.
Addressing the gathering, she said, “Our government is committed to providing 300 days of employment to the PRD jawans and is working on it. At present, the department has deployed a total of 9,300 PRD jawans out of which, the number of women jawans is only about 600. The government is also working on increasing this number.” The government would also provide a 30 per cent quota for recruitment of women in PRD besides providing them sufficient maternity leaves, added the minister. She said that the government has decided to take several uplifting and empowering decisions for PRD jawans in the coming months. She said that the government would introduce a provision to recruit the families of PRD jawans who lose their lives in accidents in the dependent quota by the next foundation day. “We are also working on a provision to increase the PRD welfare fund from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 10 crore. The department is also considering increasing the superannuation age of PRD volunteers from 50 to 60 years,” said the minister.
Arya also unveiled the logo and flag of PRD on the occasion. The minister also provided cheques for financial assistance to the next of kin of the PRD jawans who lost their lives during the Covid-19 period.
