SCPCR gears up to act against schools enrolling students for board exams without attendance
The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) will take action against schools that collude with coaching centres for enrolling students in the board exams without any attendance. The member of the commission Vinod Kaparwan said that SCPCR has received complaints against some schools that follow such illegal practice for their monetary profit. He said that several parents recently complained to the commission that their children had taken admission in Lucent International School in Dehradun for class XII but the school administration failed to enrol them for board exams in 2023.
There are a total of 88 students of the school who have not been enrolled for board exams. These students allegedly take classes in coaching institutes which have a tie up with the school but seldom attend any classes there. He said that the commission scheduled a meeting with the school in which the officials of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) revealed that an investigation is already underway since 2019 for the alleged irregularities in operation of the school.
Considering this, the SCPCR chairman Geeta Khanna recommended the education department to revoke the affiliation of the school and appealed to Director General Police (DGP) Ashok Kumar to file an FIR against the school administration to take stringent action against them. She directed the officials concerned to arrange board exams of such students through open board and ensure the school compensates the respective parents aptly. The SCPCR member Kaparwan said that the commission will soon start inspections in such schools that make illegal alliances with coaching institutes to allow students to appear for board exams without attendance. Such students study in those coaching institutes but are allowed to appear in exams without a proper attendance record in school which is against the rules.
The SCPCR has directed the education department to take action against all such new schools and coaching centres that started operating in the past five years. Kaparwan said that the commission has also received similar complaints against some schools and appropriate action would be taken against them.
