The department of ophthalmology, Shri Mahant Indiresh hospital here has successfully operated cataract of an highly overweight diabetic patient. The operation was successful in which cataract of both the eyes of the female patient was operated simultaneously and she has been discharged from the hospital.
As per the hospital authorities, a 51 year old female patient, aresident of Vasant Vihar area of Dehradun was complaining of decreasing eye sight in both the eyes. Since the patient was extremely overweight (160 kg.) and diabetic, there were significant hurdles in cataract operation of both the eyes.
When she was taken to the SMI hospital, head of department (HoD) of the ophthalmology, Dr Tarannum Shakeel decided that immediate operation of both the eyes is necessary unavoidable and if delayed, the patient can lose the eye sight.
The operation of both the eyes of the patient was done by Dr Shakeel amid all precautions which was successful. “In my career of fifteen years as an Eye Surgeon, this operation was one of the most unique, complicated and challenging one. The patient being extremely over-weight and diabetic, the operation was very risky. This operation which was conducted with extreme precautions and precision through ultramodern equipments was successful,” said Dr Shakeel.
