Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC) has increased the fare of ordinary buses and Volvo buses that carry passengers to Uttar Pradesh (UP) and New Delhi. The corporation took this decision after the UP road transport corporation increased roadways bus fare by 25 paise per kilometre. According to UTC officials, passengers travelling from Dehradun to New Delhi will now have to pay Rs 45 extra for ordinary buses, taking the new fare to Rs 420 from Rs 375. The passengers travelling in Volvo would now have to pay Rs 47 extra as the fare has been increased from Rs 888 to Rs 935 for Dehradun-Delhi route. The UTC has hiked fare on Tanakpur-Delhi route, Ramnagar-Delhi route, Kotdwar-Delhi route, Haldwani-Delhi route, Haridwar–Delhi route, Rishikesh-Delhi route and Pithoragarh-Delhi route to Rs 575 from Rs 515, Rs 400 from Rs 350, Rs 345 from Rs 290, Rs 450 from Rs 390, Rs 365 from Rs 330, Rs 420 from Rs 380, and Rs 905 from Rs 850 respectively. The fare on Dehradun-Roorkee, Dehradun-Saharanpur, Haldwani-Dehradun, Pithoragarh-Dehradun and Kotdwar-Dehradun has been increased to Rs 120 from Rs 115, Rs 110 from Rs 100, Rs 530 from Rs 500, Rs 985 from Rs 955 and Rs 255 from Rs 240 respectively.
Many commuters have also expressed anger over the fare hike as UTC had already increased the fares of roadways buses in July last year. However, UTC General Manager (Operations) Deepak Jain clarified that the new prices would be applicable only on buses that cover distance in UP. He also informed that UTC had already started charging new fares for Delhi and UP routes in some areas from Tuesday as all machines and software were not updated. Passengers across the State were charged with new fare for the said routes on Wednesday after update of the new fare system, added Jain.
