DM orders civic bodies to mark land for stray cattle shelters

The Dehradun district magistrate Sonika on Tuesday has issued orders to civic bodies to mark lands to make shelters for stray cattle. She also issued orders to the officials of the departments concerned to take action against smuggling of cattle across the district. The DM chaired a meeting of Animal Cruelty Prevention Committee on Tuesday which was attended by chairman of Uttarakhand Gau Seva Aayog, Rajendra Prasad Anthwal, members of Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animal (SPCA), municipal veterinary officers of municipal bodies, police and others. She directed the officials to identify such spaces across the district soon to ensure stray cattle can be provided with shelters. She also directed the police to take stringent action against those involved in illegal transportation of cattle. She also instructed the municipal bodies to send a proposal to the Urban Development Board demanding the financial aid to pay the pending payments of Gau Sadans if they do not have the funds. 

The officials of Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) informed the DM that there are 72 dairies currently operational in the city to which,  she directed them to conduct regular inspections to ensure all rules are being followed by them. She asked all municipal bodies to conduct workshops with the dairy operators regarding operation of dairies as per the law. Sonika also directed the officials to ensure compulsory registration of pet dogs across the district and conduct inspections of registered breeders on the request of SPCA representatives. The DM directed chief development officer Jharna Kamathan to seek an explanation as to why some officials belonging to the civic bodies did not attend the meeting.
