The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has alleged that the BJP government in Uttarakhand is insulting the sentiments of the statehood movement by being not serious on Gairsain. He said that three years ago the then chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat had made the announcement that the Gairsain would be the summer capital of Uttarakhand. He said that in the last three years neither the chief minister nor members of his cabinet or even any officer has worked from Gairsain for one day. Mahara said that it appears as if the magnificent building of Vidhan Sabha which has been made by the hard earned money of taxpayers has become a mere showpiece and a place of shelter for birds and animals.
Mahara said that the declaration of the former CM that Gairsain would be made a commissionerate and it would be connected with every district with a network of roads too has proved to be impractical. He said that the State government did mere formality by organising a Vidhan Sabha session in Gairsain by spending crores of rupees. Launching a scathing attack on the BJP, the PCC president said that the successive BJP governments in Uttarakhand have only deceived the people of the State. Mahara said that the BJP governments are responsible for the present status where the State has not a permanent capital. He said that the BJP is still misleading the people on Gairsain and insulting the martyrs of the Statehood movement.
