Debris from ongoing road widening work had blocked highway to traffic
The Rishikesh-Badrinath national highway national highway was closed to traffic for about five hours due to debris on Saturday. The debris reportedly resulted from the road widening work currently being undertaken. The highway got blocked by debris near Taiya bridge at midday which resulted in long queues of vehicles on both sides of the blockage.
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) which is undertaking the road widening work started working on clearing the debris shortly after the highway was blocked at about 12 PM. It took many hours of work after which the road could be reopened for traffic at about 5 PM. It is pertinent to mention here that the BRO is working at a brisk pace on widening of the national highway to Badrinath with the shrine slated to be reopened to the public next month.
