Congress protests show prejudice against backward classes: BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party has stated that the Congress protests being held to justify Rahul Gandhi’s arrogance exhibit the party’s prejudice against the backward classes of the nation. The BJP State president Mahendra Bhatt alleged that the protests against the decision of the court prove that whether it is in power or opposition, it is part of the Congress’ political character to oppose and defame constitutional institutions and procedures.

In an informal interaction with the media, he said that the court had found Rahul Gandhi guilty of insulting the OBC community considering which the protests being staged by the Congress amount to further insulting the backward classes of the nation. He said, “The entire matter is quite clear. Rahul insulted the entire OBC community and after due procedure, the court found him guilty and convicted him. Following this, his Lok Sabha membership was quashed following constitutional procedure. What the Congress is doing now is only politics and direct opposition of the constitutional process. So far 32 MPs and MLAs have lost their membership under Article 102 (1) of the constitution and section 8 of the Representation of The People Act, under which Rahul Gandhi was disqualified. However, the Congress never staged a major protest in these instances which shows its double standards. The noise being made by the Congress now in this matter shows that it does not care about the membership of others but only cares about one family.”

The BJP State president further said that even those with general knowledge of the law know that the action taken in this case is in accordance with the constitution. However, the Congress is still opposing this judicial and constitutional process on the roads.

Terming the protest by the Congress in the name of saving the constitution as unnecessary, Bhatt said that former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had imposed emergency in the nation following the Allahabad High Court decision regarding her disqualification. The Congress is acting similarly by undertaking a protest movement against Rahul Gandhi’s conviction and disqualification, he said while adding that weakening and defaming the judiciary and constitutional institutions has become part of the Congress’ character.
