State Information Commissioner Yogesh Bhatt has penalised the Food and Civil Supplies department for failing to provide ration to a person for two years.
Appellant Rajesh Kumar of Laksar Tehsil in Haridwar district had submitted in the State Information Commission that the department had provided a slip (5002383333) of ration card but the PVC ration card was not provided to him. The department has not provided ration to him for two years. He said that when he sought information from the department in this regard, no information was given to him. Hearing the appeal, the State Information Commissioner Yogesh Bhatt imposed a penalty of Rs 25,000 on the then Public Information Officer (PIO) and the incumbent Supply Inspector, Manglaur, Landora, Haridwar Babita. He also directed the department to provide pending 17 quintal and 500 gm ration to Rajesh Kumar.
The State Information Commissioner Bhatt said that people can get what is rightfully theirs by using the Right to Information (RTI) Act in a correct manner. Bhatt said that it is the endeavour of the commission that more and more publicity is given to the RTI so that the general public remains alert towards their rights.
