The parents of Kiran Negi, who was allegedly gangraped and murdered in Delhi in 2012, have appealed to the citizens of Uttarakhand to join them at Jantar Mantar on April 9, to demand justice for their daughter. Kiran’s parents
Kunwar Singh Negi and Maheshwari Negi said in a Press conference here at Press Club in Dehradun on Thursday that the Supreme Court has rejected the review petition of the case so they will now plead for justice at Jantar Mantar before the curative petition. Advocate and member of People Against Rape in India (PARI), Yogita Bhayana said that it is sad the SC acquitted all three accused when the lower courts found them guilty and gave them the death sentence. She said that a 19-year-old was brutally raped and murdered and they still get to live their lives freely because the SC was not satisfied with the evidence but lower courts were.
The victim’s mother asked that if those acquitted by the court in the case of kidnapping, gangrape and murder of her daughter are innocent then why are the authorities not taking concrete steps to arrest the culprits. “We are ready to apologise to the men acquitted by the court if authorities arrest the ‘real’ culprits. We are even ready to pay compensation to them for the time they spent in jail as accused if the authorities arrest those who killed my daughter,” said Maheshwari Negi.
The father also said that Kiran was the daughter of Uttarakhand and all must provide their support to them at Jantar Mantar on April 9. He said that they also want to appeal to chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to make a demand for the CBI inquiry into his daughter’s case at the central level. “The government talks about Beti Padhao Beti Bachao. Parents can educate their daughter but how will they be protected if such judgements are passed here,” said Negi.
