The joint team of Dehradun district administration, police and Municipal Corporation of Dehradun removed encroachments from 75 locations marked near main roads and junctions of the city on Monday on the directions of district magistrate Sonika. She informed that the administration has divided the city into five zones to identify and remove encroachments.

The first three zones are Mohabbewala to Rajpur Road, Dhulkot to Kuanwala and Brahmakamal Chowk to IT Park and Sahastradhara Crossing to IT Park. The fourth zone consists of the areas from Transport Nagar to Garhi Cantt Chowk, ISBT Chowk to Rispana Bridge, Lalpul to Kargi Chowk and Shimla Bypass Chowk to Badowala Chowk. The fifth zone includes Chhe Number Puliya to Dehradun Airport, Maharana Pratap Chowk to Maldevta Chowk and Rajpur to Kuthal Gate to Mussoorie Diversion. In the first phase, the teams removed encroachments from a total of 75 places including from 17 places in the first zone, 22 places in the second zone, eight places in the third zone, 20 places in the fourth zone and eight places in the fifth zone.

The DM said, “The administration has been receiving complaints against encroachments causing traffic congestion on footpaths and near main roads and big junctions where flow of traffic usually remains heavy. Considering this, the administration decided to remove such encroachments in a phased manner.” She said that traffic is one of the prominent issues of the city and the administration is taking steps against all such activities that disrupt smooth flow of traffic to ensure the traffic management system improves here. The joint teams of departments concerned will continue to mark places to remove more such encroachments from across the city, added DM.
