Taking the admission of students without any legal formalities below the age of 14 years is accepted as per Right to Education (RTE) said Chief Education Officer (CEO) of Dehradun, Pradeep Rawat. Faced with decreasing enrollments, some schools started admitting new students without transfer certificates (TC).

It is learnt that many of the schools in Dehradun are taking admission of students without TC to compensate for the reduction in student numbers in their school during the pandemic of Covid-19. Commenting on the admissions, a staff member of a school in Clement Town revealed that there are some schools in Dehradun who are taking admission of students without TCs. He said that it is nothing but a marketing strategy of the schools to compensate for the loss of admissions during the pandemic period.

The Chairman of Doon International School, DS Mann said that if some schools are taking admissions without a transfer certificate then it is completely wrong. Talking on the matter of transfer certificate, the CEO of Dehradun Pradeep Rawat said, “Under right to education it is clearly mentioned that students of class I to VIII can take admission in school without any legal formalities. So if any school is taking admission of students till age 14, then it is in accordance with RTE.”
