With the weather taking a turn, snowfall has been reported in various high altitude regions of the Chamoli district. Snowfall was reported in Badrinath, Hemkund-Lokpal, Valley of Flowers and Niti valley which has once again brought down the temperature in this region.
With little more than a week left for the end of April, summer temperatures were being experienced in various parts of the mountainous region here. However, the weather took a turn late on Wednesday evening with snowfall starting in Badrinath. Up to half a foot of snow has covered this temple township. With a few days left for reopening of the Badrinath temple for the public, the snowfall at this time has also affected execution of works being undertaken as part of the Badrinath master plan and for preparations for the Char Dham Yatra.
Elsewhere in the district, snowfall at Hemkund- Lokpal has also affected the work being undertaken by the army jawans to clear the snow from the route to the shrines. Moderate snowfall has also been reported in the Niti valley. At the same time, rainfall in the lower altitudes has once again brought the cold weather back just when the summer heat appeared to be rising.
