Dolis carrying idols of Gangotri & Kedarnath depart from winter abodes

Gangotri & Yamunotri temples slated to be reopened to public today
While chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami flagged off buses carrying pilgrims from Rishikesh to Char Dham shrines, processions carrying the ceremonial idols of Gangotri and Kedarnath also departed from the winter abodes of the deities to the shrines. The Gangotri and Yamunotri shrines in Uttarkashi district are slated to be reopened to the public on the occasion of Akshay Tritiya today.
The procession carrying the Bhog Murti of goddess Ganga started from her winter abode of Mukhba towards Gangotri on Friday. The Panchmukhi idol of lord Kedarnath also departed from his winter abode at the Omkareshwar temple in Ukhimath towards Kedarnath on Friday. With an army band playing tunes and devotees hailing the lord, the procession carrying the idolf of lord Kedarnath reached the Vishwanath temple in Guptkashi for the night.
On the same day, the procession carrying the idol of goddess Ganga reached the Bhairav temple in Bhairavghati for the night. The procession will reach Gangotri on Saturday morning after which the temple will be reopened to the public at 12:35 PM. The idol of goddess Yamuna will depart from her winter abode at Kharsali at 8 AM on Saturday for Yamunotri which will also be reopened to the devotees on the same day. The portals of Kedarnath are slated to be reopened to the public on April 25.
