A woman lekhpal, posted in Sadar tehsil of Basti district of Uttar Pradesh, was arrested by the anti-corruption team while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000.
The lekhpal was caught red-handed while taking money from the complainant at a shop near Sadar Tehsil gate. The accused, booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act, has been suspended. It is learnt that she demanded bribe of Rs 1000 each from 20 people. The gram pradhan lodged a complaint against the lekhpal in the anti- corruption office in Gorakhpur. A team investigated the matter on the basis of the complaint. A time was fixed and the team constituted for this purpose caught the woman officer red-handed while taking the bribe.
