Mallu leaf plates for Kedarnath pilgrims

Under the initiative of the district administration, this time during the Kedarnath pilgrimage, plastic plates and glasses will not be used on the yatra route. Food will be served instead in the dishes made of Mallu leaves. Women were engaged in this work and they have been preparing such dishes in large numbers. This will not just strengthen these women’s economic status but also save the environment in the Himalayas from plastic menace. The food vendors at the stops from Sonprayag to Kedarnath will serve food to the pilgrims in the environment friendly dishes.
The district magistrate Rudraprayag Mayur Dixit has been monitoring this work. The chief development officer Naresh Kumar said that the work of making such plates is being done through the women of the village Jal-Malla in Ukhimath development block. The district administration has given Rs 15 lakh for this work. This aside, the village organisation engaged in this work has taken Rs 2 lakh from the community investment fund.
