Rules for Ola, Uber to be changed

Rules are all set to be changed for the contract permit vehicles like Ola, Uber in Dehradun. After the proposal was approved at the State Transport Authority meeting, it is now lying with the finance department. The finance minister has called a meeting with the officers to discuss this matter. It is being said that after these changes are implemented, both the passengers and the drivers will be benefited.
The notification issued by the Central government on the contract permit vehicles while incorporating changes in the Motor Vehicles Act is to be implemented in the state. STA approved it in November last year. It is now under the consideration of the administration after it was cleared by the transport department. It is learnt that after it is approved by the finance department, this amendment proposal will be placed before the Cabinet.
After the amendments are effected, the facility of pooling in a car can be given only to those customers whose KYC details are available with the company. To ensure the women passengers’ safety, women will be given the option of pooling only with women.
As per the new rules, the drivers will get 80 percent of the fare while the companies will get 20 percent. With the cancellation fee being capped at 10 per cent of the total fare, it will not exceed Rs 100 for both the passenger and the driver.
Besides, the companies will have to ensure that health insurance worth Rs 5 lakh is available to each driver which may be increased at the rate of five per cent every year. Moreover, a provision is also being made in the new rules to give term insurance worth Rs 10 lakh to each driver. As per the new rules, the companies will have to conduct training courses for drivers twice a year. The new drivers joining the company must undergo a mandatory five-day training to ensure that they become capable of taking the passengers to their destinations safely.
