Police launch anti-encroachment drive in Lalkuan

Acting on the order of the Nainital High Court on removing encroachments of railway land in Nagina Colony of Lalkuan in Nainital district of Uttarakhand, the district police led by SP City Haldwani Harbans Singh started the anti-encroachment drive. It was started at around 10.30 am. As the operation started, the residents of Nagina Colony and the activists of several political parties and organisations staged protest against it. Police resorted to mild lathi charge and arrested around a dozen demonstrators. Thereafter the administration started its operation to remove about 300 houses built illegally on the railway land. Among the parties and organisations which took part in the anti-encroachment drive demonstration were Aam Aadmi Party, Parivartankami Chhatra Sangathan and Mahila Ekta Kendra.
