Governor participates in 154th annual function of Sherwood College

Exhorting the students to inculcate self-discipline and robust will power coupled with kindness and compassion, the governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh spoke of the major contribution that Sherwood College in Nainital had made in the realm of education. He was speaking at the conclusion of the 154th annual function of the school as the chief guest on Monday. He felicitated various teachers and staff members on the occasion. Singh also felicitated students of the institution who have made their marks on academic and non-academic activities.    

In his address, he dwelt on the school’s history spanning over 154 years and said that it has been playing a monumental role in the arena of nation-building. He recalled that field marshal Sam Manekshaw and the first Param Vir Chakra winner major Somnath Sharma were the alumni of this educational institution. “The students here should be proud of the great heritage and the legacy of this college,” he said and added that by imbibing the qualities of head and heart, the students are expected to help India emerge as a self-reliant, developed nation, both materially and spiritually. 

Singh said that learning is a continuous process and one should never cease learning. “But never forget your parents, teachers and friends,” he said while addressing the students.

General Officer Commanding (GOC) 51 sub area major general Rakesh Kumar Jha, an alumnus of the institution, also spoke on the occasion. Principal Amandeep Sandhu and others were also present on the occasion.
