Gearing up for the next year’s Lok Sabha election, the Congress party is likely to remove the in-charge of the Uttarakhand unit of the party Devendra Yadav soon.
It is learnt that the party high command of the Congress is likely to change in-charges in a dozen States along with Uttarakhand. A senior leader of the Congress party confirmed that the party is going to replace Yadav with some senior leader. Another leader of the party informed that Yadav too is not interested to continue in Uttarakhand and is making efforts to become chief of Delhi unit of the Congress party.
The Congress MLA Madan Bisht who has remained vocal in his opposition for Yadav hinted on Tuesday that the party would see a new in-charge in next five days. Bisht said that Yadav should have been removed after the defeat of the party in last year’s Assembly elections. He said that the then Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ganesh Godiyal and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in State Assembly Pritam Singh were replaced after the defeat in the Assembly elections but Yadav continued to function in his position.
Yadav was appointed as Uttarakhand in- charge of Congress in the year 2021. He replaced Anurgarh Narayan Singh. After the Assembly elections, the former PCC president and Chakrata MLA Pritam Singh and his supporters opened a front against Yadav. Later Singh questioned the long absence of Yadav from the State after the loss in the assembly elections. On Tuesday Pritam Singh again launched a veiled attack on Yadav by stating that it is the responsibility of the in-charge to keep the party united.
When asked by The Pioneer the AICC secretary Qazi Nizamuddin refused to comment on the issue. He however added that changing responsibilities is a routine and normal practice. Nizamuddin said that Yadav has performed well in Uttarakhand and under him the party has increased its number of seats in the assembly and total vote share.
